Earlier this year, Sharon Pendleton was picked by MTV to be “made” into a rugby player for her high school in Pulaski, Wisconsin. Although she wasn’t classified or known as an athlete by any means, Sharon stuck to it and did in fact, make it the boy’s rugby team. Coaching her to that stage was no easy feat as Sharon overcame personal obstacles in adapting to a team environment. In addition, Sharon needed help in toughening up and getting up to speed to compete for 80 minutes in such a demanding sport.
To help the local coaches, USA Eagle and New York Rugby Club’s very own Phaidra Knight went out west to help Sharon forget the makeup and make the commitment. It was considered a success as long after cameras stopped rolling as Sharon stuck it out and played the rest of the season with the team.
Our concept tee (80:00) made it’s debut on MTVs MADE (no pun intended). Meant as a training tee, the concept is about the time the body must achieve productive results in a rugby match. Printed in reflective ink, 80:00 minutes stares back at you in the gym mirrors or highlighted when you go for a run and a car passes you – - Congrats to Sharon and a big thanks to Phaidra Knight for the support.
