To elaborate on our travels to London this month, we met with the UK based charity organization, SKRUM. Who aim to give the youth of Swaziland HOPE for the future and for once the freedom of CHOICE in their lives through social education and the opportunity to play the wonderful game of RUGBY.
Why Swaziland you ask? Swaziland recently surpassed Botswana as the country with the world’s highest known rate of HIV/AIDS infection – 42% of the 958,000 population.
The average life expectancy is a lowly 32 and 31% of all youth are orphans & vulnerable children. It is projected that without bold action these frightening statistics will worsen by up to 25% by 2010. You can learn more about their work here: SKRUM
How Bakline plans to help their cause this weekend – stop by the New York Rugby Sevens Tournament this Saturday the 27th from 8AM to 4PM on the south end of Randalls Island and donate. As an added bonus, we will be selling raffle tickets to those interested in winning an autographed USA Eagles Sevens or a Canadian Sevens jersey kindly donated by USA team head coach Al Caravelli and team Canada. As an added bonus, Bakline will raffle off a complimentary Design Service to the club who wins. Many thanks to both national teams and our friends at SKRUM for providing these prizes! The winner’s raffle ticket will be drawn at the Tournament After-Party hosted by Connelly’s Pub and Restaurant on East 47th (btw Madison and 5th Ave) – results will be posted on the Bakline Facebook page that night.
Here’s how it works:
The minimum donation is $5 – for that you will receive two SKRUM Dollars to use at the NY 7s food vendor tent and two raffle tickets to put into the prize bucket of your choosing. For $10, you receive 4 SKRUM dollars and 4 raffle tickets. For $15 you receive seven of each, for $20 – 9 of each and for $25, 13 of each. Up to you! A Bakline representative will be there to clarify if you have any questions.
Hope to see you at the Sevens Tournament and to all those who donate, many thanks in advance!
